AMASA Party 2010

It was that time of year again where all the people in the Media industry had to dust off their dancing shoes, put on their top hats and fastened their bow ties and attend  the yearly fundraising party of  The Advertising and Media Association of South Africa (AMASA), which was held at the charming St. Yves Beach club in Camps Bay on 16 September 2010.

The theme for this year’s AMASA party was: “Welcome to Glamorous Las Vegas” and the guests had to dress accordingly. Best Dressed individual was Peter Roos from INC and he received the fabulous best dressed prize that was an Oracle HD PVR decoder. The best dressed groups were Radmark and Associated Magazines who received movie tickets and holiday accommodation.

This year many fabulous sponsors were involved such as Jack Daniels who sponsored the welcome drinks, black jack tables as well as the freakishly talented Larry the Mentalist who amazed guests throughout the night; E.TV who provided the scrumptious snacks and treats; Heart FM who was generous enough to send DJ Phat Joe over for the night to act as the MC and Ads24 who supplied a photo booth for the party, which was put to good use by all the guest. Combined, all of these sponsors helped to add to the evening’s fun, glamour and allure.

According to Jamie Matthews, AMASA Committee member, the AMASA party has become one of the highlights of the year with professionals from across the industry coming together to enjoy a wonderful night together.

Behind the glitz and glamour there is a hidden cause: this year AMASA will be using the funds raised for bursaries. AMASA will select a student from a previously disadvantaged background who will benefit from the bursary. The candidates interested in a bursary have to be a student in their final year, because this will prove that they have made their way through the first years of their studies on their own. They have to write a letter to motivate why they should be chosen. The candidate that writes the best motivational letter is the one who will be chosen. The candidates can be students at any Cape Town institution studying media, advertising or marketing.

Do not pack those dancing shoes too far away, because next year’s AMASA party will be here sooner than you’ll know it and promises to be even more spectacular!
